The Broken Heart’s Lament

Yearning for Redemption

My heart shattered with the past that’s gone
Who will exchange it for its lost time that’s done?
My soul despaired, its words failed to express
The intentions it had, the ones it couldn’t address

If only the one who torments my heart could see
So I may tell her to leave the games and set me free
The stabs of betrayal persistently pierce my being
How do I stand tall amidst this agony unyielding?

Will the victim of destiny be granted a chance
To live with dignity, after defeat’s cruel advance?
I am the one whose hands were tied to their lips
With apologies unspoken, my grievances eclipsed

I am the one who sinned, with hands full of vice
Ignorance blinded me, I tasted the poison twice
The earth trembled with the sorrow inside of me
The universe constricted my chest that couldn’t breathe

I am the wretched one, if I don’t embrace remorse
God’s mercy is the only cure for my wrongdoing’s force
I am the pauper who needs his Lord’s compassion
For who else will show
