TikTok, the popular social media app, has promised to remove all American user data from its servers by the end of this year. This announcement was made by TikTok’s CEO, Shou Zi Chew, in recent testimony before the US Congress (Source: Reuters).

The move comes in response to growing concerns about national security risks associated with the app. TikTok has faced intense scrutiny from US regulators and lawmakers over its ties to China and the potential for Chinese government access to American user data. There have been fears that this data could be used for espionage or other malicious purposes.

To address these concerns, TikTok has launched Project Texas, an initiative to protect American user data from foreign access. The project involves transferring American user data to servers managed by Oracle employees in the US, which will be subject to US jurisdiction and managed by American employees. TikTok plans to invest $1.5 billion in the project, which is part of the company’s broader data security initiative.
