Why won’t you sit for a while?
Why won’t you stay?

For the issue at hand is bigger than you and me, as you know,
And what was between us,
Was not just a fleeting moment on the surface of the water,
But a vast expanse like the sky itself.

So how could a moment of weakness,
Lead us to wish for the sky’s demise?
Why won’t you sit for just five more minutes?

For there is so much in the heart,
So much sadness,
And it’s not easy to kill emotions in a flash,
And toss away our love like trash.

For we are surrounded by a legacy of love,
Of poetry, of sorrow,
Of bread, of salt, of tobacco, of memories,
From all directions they besiege us.

So won’t you take a moment to think,
About what you’re doing?
For the issue at hand,
Is bigger than you and me, as you know.
